CBCK expresses its gratitude to Dana Evans for her week-long visit to Kenya, where she conducted a Trauma Competent Caregiver (TCC) training that incorporated methods from Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). TBRI is an attachment-based, evidence-based, and trauma-informed approach designed to address the complex needs of children. It employs Empowering Principles to meet physical needs, Connecting Principles to nurture attachment, and Correcting Principles to mitigate fear-based behaviors. During the training, participants learned about the goals of child welfare and acquired essential skills for providing trauma-competent care. They gained insights into the potential lifelong impact of trauma on development and recognized how childhood traumatic stress can be exacerbated by ongoing stressors in a child’s life. Participants identified coping responses, strengths, and protective factors that promote positive adjustment among traumatized children. Additionally, they were equipped with new strategies, techniques, and skills to effectively respond to the challenging behaviors exhibited by children with a traumatic history and learned the importance of promoting their own self-care. Travel safely back home. You have been a blessing to us.
